How many times do parents chuckle to themselves as their children complain that mom and dad “don’t understand me”. Why do we chuckle? Because we have been children ourselves and we do understand, all to well, what our children are going through. We also know that it is the children who are being foolish and unwise. And how do we know this? Because we are older, we have lived and lived through those times.
That living has given us the tools of understanding, wisdom, and skill to not only understand, but move forward in our lives. They are working to achieve and grow our tools. Some will survive these times healthy and intact. Some will not. Their outcome will depend a great deal, if not entirely, on us and how well we are willing and able to guide them through this age.
So what does this have to do with being a Christian? Everything. Why? Because we we fail to recognize and give credit to satan for being millennium older and therefore millennium wiser than we are. Granted, he is a fool before God, but not before us.
Scripture warns us over and over how sneaky and devious satan is and how easy it is for him to manipulate us. What do you suppose is his favorite tool? I believe his best and most frequently used tool is keeping us from fully understanding scripture.
If you have not read scripture from cover to cover you are not following the stated will of God. If you stand before a congregation in this condition and claim to speak for God, you are placing yourself in a position of being a curse to yourself, your family, and every person who looks up to you as a teacher or pastor.
